Finally, the non-remix version of The Truth. It’s pretty much awesome. I approve.

The Whisperlights - The Storm

I have never heard of these guys before today. I assume they can be bracketed into “indie rock” which immediately raises my hackles along the lines of the rant post below - cookie-cutter indie rock crap makes me very angry at the moment.

To be honest though, they’re not clone-ish. They sound a little like Los Campesinos! on their tracks with vocals, which isn’t a bad thing, but it’s not like it’s a superior sound or anything. What I do love though is the instrumental track below. It’s starts off a little like this band, which is why I think I really do like it so.

Actually, this sounds one hell of a lot like the first track on that band’s Myspace. Woah. Freakily so. Well. Anyway. It’s atmospheric yet has guitars and I really like it…even if now I’m somewhat suspicious…

Lykke Li - Love Out Of Lust

Fuck yes. New Lykke Li track from upcoming Wounded Rhymes. Love it…absolutely beautiful.

Let’s get this straight. I don’t like Radiohead. I generally think they’re over-rated heads-up-arses dullards that have the horrific side-effect of creating thousands more douches with each new record. Same could be said for many other bands e.g. Muse but at least I like/liked their music and it didn’t make me want to kill myself with a cheese wire.

But, okay. I really like this. That is all.

Beth Ditto - I Wrote The Book Video

Psst, Britney. Here’s how to make a video. Even if it is an homage to Madonna.

LOVE IT. I’d so do Beth Ditto.

Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me Video

Generally, I quite like Batshit Spears. I’m not even really ashamed of it. The team behind Batshit tend to make good pop music. Sometimes the videos are pretty good too, if only in a laughable way.

Well I’m not even laughing at this. It’s just plain shit. All those rumours about Batshit needing a body double for the dancing…HAHAHAHA! WHAT DANCING?! She pops her arms around a bit and steps from side-to-side occasionally. And I don’t give two hoots for the “symbolism” of her standing in a white dress surrounded by images of Baby One More Time then going batshit - what she’s actually doing is singing a sexually forward lyric WHILST WEARING A WEDDING DRESS. Thanks for making women look desperate, love.

And the product placement. Oh, the product placement. I actually struggled to believe this video was real due to the overload of product placement (and Batshit standing singing in a wedding dress). I’m still not convinced.

The fight scene’s pretty neat though. Like two blonde Chun Lis.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

I am a day late for this, but this is because I am violently allergic to February 14th and all the tacky crap that surrounds it. It actually brings me out in weeping sores all over my hands, preventing me from typing, mousing, or even, yes, even washing. Plus then the sores ooze…it’s all very not hearts and flowers. Apart from the pink and red colours.

So here’s my “fuck you” to the unoriginal, impersonal, vomit-inducing crap that is Valentine’s Day. PJ Harvey. This Is Love. Yes, this song is love. I won’t go so far as to dedicate this to my wonderful boyfriend, because that would start the sores up again. But it would be a damn sight better than most VD rubbish.

PJ Harvey, I love you.

RIP

It was with huge amounts of sadness that I read the news about LCD Soundsystem’s retirement show at MSG. One of my favourite bands, winding down to a glorious end, and wasn’t it a good ride? Of course, it’s very sad that there shall be no more LCD albums to weep over the amazingness of, but I hope Mr Murphy will remain kicking around. Doing bits and bobs. I hope.

Sadly, I live in the good old UK, so there’s no way I’m going to be able to get to that show, but believe me, I’m feeling a healthy amount of jealousy for everyone who can.

And now I’m just going to spam the hell out of the rest of this post with LCD classics. RIP, LCD.

Foster The People - Houdini

As much as I loved Helena Beat by these upbeat, wonderfully pre-Congratulations MGMT-alikes, this track almost blows it out of the water. I think it might be my new YOU SHALL BE HAPPY, YOU VALENTINES-HATING HO track. Perhaps it would suit better in, say, May (because it’s grey and rainy and crap outside right now), but I can use this to pretend. Oh, how I shall pretend. Sun and blue skies and beers in the park. Thanks, Foster The People.
